Beard Snoods or Beard Covers?

So, which is the best option for your environment?

When choosing a product for critical, or food handling environments, it is important to take into consideration all factors, whether that’s human, environmental, economical, or supply chain confidence.

So, what are human factors? This includes, comfort, moisture wicking properties, breathability, and hair retention.

What are environmental factors? Taking into account warm or hot environments, a factory where ovens are located for example, or where the temperature is chilled, such as a sandwich factory.

What are economical factors? The cost of the product, the quality (if more are used due to breakage), or if fines are issued when hair contamination occurs.

What is supply chain confidence? Whether the product is made in Britain, or imported; and who controls the quality.

When worn correctly (over the nose), we can compare the products equally:

The benefit of using Beard Snoods, tends to lean towards Human, Environmental and supply chain confidence, why is this? Due to the mesh construction, and it’s moisture wicking properties, these products are breathable and don’t leave moisture on the inside, or surface. The way the product is knitted, ensures that it is close to the skin, which works to grip and hold the hair. Operatives generally prefer the comfort/breathability they offer. They are made in Britain.

The benefit of using Beard Covers, tends to lean towards the economical, why is this? As an imported product, they are cheaper than Beard Snoods, as the manufacturing costs are lower. However, is the product cost, versus the real cost worthwhile? Due to the non-woven material, they are not breathable; which creates heat and moisture on the inside. This leads to the operative touching and adjusting them to ease discomfort; ultimately, this can lead to increased hair complaints. Whilst they seem more enclosing, they are loose fitting, and don’t grip and hold the hair effectively. They are an imported product.

Why are Made in Britain products versus Imported products important?
Really, it’s down to supply chain confidence. The UK manufacturer isn’t reliant freight, shipping issues, or other’s lead-times to keep the product flowing and in stock. This also means they control the product from the start (the yarn) to finish (the end product/packing), and control all aspects of quality.

Of course sometimes, sampling products are the best way to see what is best for your customer’s environment, so please get in touch if you need samples, or further information: sara@lionhaircare.co.uk.
